Modernization of Higher Education: €33.4 Million Digitalization Initiative

Latvia is undertaking a comprehensive modernization of its higher education system through the "Digitalization of the Study Process" initiative, set to run from autumn 2025 to the end of 2029. Funded by €33.4 million from European Union funds, the project aims to implement shared digital solutions to modernize study management systems and processes. Key features include flexible course selection across institutions, the introduction of e-diplomas, promotion of lifelong learning, and the transition to paperless processes. Additionally, the initiative will develop four study support systems: integrated digital resource and library management with AI support, modern student internship management, assessment of the study process, and management of personal data use in student research. The project is a collaborative effort among major Latvian universities and is expected to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of the country's higher education landscape.
